The lenient sentence imposed on former Stanford student, Brock Turner, for the sexual assault of an unconscious woman in January 2015, has outraged many folks. Petitions are circulating calling for the recall of Santa Clara County Judge Aaron Persky. The prosecution had asked that Turner be sentenced to six years after a jury convicted him of three felonies. The maximum sentence was 14 years. The judge, however, sentenced Turner to six months and three years’ probation, commenting that, “A prison sentence would have a severe impact on him. I think he will not be a danger to others.” (A six-month sentence is served in a county jail, not a state prison.)
