A Baltimore Circuit Court set aside three days for a post-conviction hearing last week in the case of Adnan Syed, convicted of the 1999 murder of his former girlfriend Hae Min Lee. He was sentenced to life plus 30 years. The hearing, however, was not completed last Friday and will continue today. There are a few key arguments at this hearing. One is that Syed’s defense attorney was ineffective when she failed to investigate, and call as a witness, a former high school classmate of Syed, Asia McClain (now Asia Chapman). Had Chapman been called as an alibi witness, the defense now argues, it could have affected the outcome of the case.
