Bill Cosby Sexual Assault Civil Trial to Begin in California
Judy Huth says she was only 15 years old when Bill Cosby allegedly drugged and raped her at the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles in 1974. While it's too late for a criminal prosecution, Huth filed a civil suit against Cosby in December 2014. The case is set for trial today.
Charles Merritt Trial
Opening statements and testimony are set to begin today in the capital murder trial of Charles Merritt, accused of killing all four members of the McStay family in 2010. The McStays lived in San Diego County but their remains were found years later in shallow graves in San Bernardino County. The judge is allowing the trial to be televised.
Patrick Frazee Pretrial Hearing
Patrick Frazee is charged with the murder of his fiancee, Kelsey Berreth, 29, who disappeared in Colorado on Thanksgiving 2018. The couple has a toddler daughter. As of earlier this month, Berreth's body has not been found.
Michael Gargiulo Hearing
This alleged serial killer has been awaiting a capital murder trial since his arrest in LA in June 2008. Gargiulo is accused of killing two women and attempting to murder a third. He also faces an earlier murder charge in Chicago. This is a hearing today. The trial is expected to start in the spring of 2019.
Kevin Spacey Pretrial Hearing
Spacey is charged with sexual assault of an 18-year-old man in a Cape Cod, MA bar in July 2016. Spacey will not be present at this hearing. He's represented by former LA prosecutor Alan Jackson who was the prosecutor in Phil Spector's murder case.
Michael Gargiulo Jury Selection Begins in LA
Alleged serial killer Michael Gargiulo's capital murder trial is finally set to begin with jury selection today. Gargiulo is accused of two murders and one attempted murder between 2001 and 2008. He was arrested in the summer of 2008 and has been awaiting trial since then.
Grant Amato Arraignment
Grant Amato, 29, is accused of three counts of first degree murder for shooting his parents, Margaret and Chad, and his brother Cody on January 24-25, 2019 at their suburban Orlando, FL home. Amato reportedly had spent $200,000 of the family's money on his sex addiction to a porn site called Cam Girls. He was under the apparent delusion that a Bulgarian woman on the site was his girlfriend. The family tried to get him help then finally kicked him out of the house. Amato returned that night and allegedly killed them all. He had spent a few days as of late December in an internet and sex addition program but checked himself out in early January. I suspect his mental state is being evaluated.
Joseph DeAngelo, Alleged Golden State Killer, Hearing
Joseph DeAngelo, the alleged Golden State Killer, faces 13 murders charges and 13 rape-related charges for a crime spree throughout California in the 1970s and 1980s. He was arrested in April 2018 once familial DNA identified him as having left his DNA at several crime scenes. Six California counties are working jointly in this prosecution. The trial will take place in Sacramento. Some believe the trial could take years to complete. DeAngelo, a former police office, is 73 years old.
