Opening statements are scheduled today in the criminal trial against Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane. She’s charged with leaking secret grand jury information to the press in order to embarrass Frank Fina, a political opponent, and others, then lying about it under oath. The criminal charges include perjury, conspiracy and obstruction. Read the criminal complaint and probable cause statement here. Last fall, Kane’s law license was temporarily suspended. A jury of six men and six women was seated yesterday.The trial is expected to last about one week. Kane’s defense team is headed by New York City-based attorney Gerald Shargel. Shargel has had many high profile clients including the late mobster John Gotti.
