He’s charged with four misdemeanors (though one carries a sentence up to 10 years) related to the death of Freddie Gray. Nero is one of two arresting officers who, unlike the remaining four officers, are not charged with manslaughter or murder. Without a jury, Nero’s trial will be on a much faster track and could end late next week. Robert Dear, the Colorado Planned Parenthood shooter charged with three counts of murder, has been found mentally incompetent after a hearing.
