Jury selection in the involuntary manslaughter trial of Baltimore police officer William Porter started yesterday, the first of six trials of officers charged in Freddie Gray’s death. Gray died last April after sustaining a spinal cord injury while being transported in a police van. About 75 potential jurors were first questioned en masse by the judge before an afternoon devoted to individual questioning in a conference room. Every juror indicated he or she was aware of the Freddie Gray case as well as the $6.4 million settlement between the city and Gray’s family.
